Leading Climate Expert and Policy Veteran Marie Liu Joins Fearless Advocacy

SACRAMENTO (February 5, 2025) - Fearless Advocacy,  a Sacramento-based consulting firm specializing in advancing the policy agendas of mission-based and cause-oriented organizations, is pleased to announce that Marie Liu will be joining the firm as the first Director of Climate Advocacy on March 1, 2025. Liu comes to Fearless Advocacy with more than two decades of experience working in environmental policy. She has guided and supported policy work in a wide range of issues from coastal access protection, forestry management, toxic waste and materials management, solid waste and plastics reduction, and transportation electrification. The throughline of this diverse work has been her deep values in protecting the most vulnerable communities and the environment. Marie joins Fearless Advocacy founder Jennifer Fearing and Jeanie Ward-Waller, Fearless Advocacy’s Director of Transportation Policy.

In her new role, Marie is launching a strategy and policy consulting practice focused on defending California’s bedrock environmental laws and continuing equitable climate action. Marie’s expertise is also expected to bring elevated value to Fearless Advocacy’s existing work to pursue environmental justice, tackle plastic production and pollution, protect wildlife, and enhance biodiversity.

Marie previously worked as the California Program Director at Energy Foundation. Before that she served as the Environmental and Climate Advisor for Speaker of the California State Assembly Anthony Rendon. She has also served as a consultant to the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Water.

Fearless Advocacy is in its eleventh year producing policy and budget successes for nonprofits in California. Fearing has been named to the Capitol Weekly’s annual “Top 100” list six times and in 2019 was voted by her peers as public interest lobbyist of the year. She authored the chapter on nonprofit lobbying in the Kendall-Hunt textbook A Practitioner’s Guide to Lobbying and Advocacy in California.
